Anxiety as NiMet predicts high possibility of flood in Borno, Yobe states

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency weather outlook has predicted high possibility of flooding in Borno and Yobe states on Monday, August 25th, 2025.

The agency also predicted thunderstorms with moderate rains in states like Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Adamawa, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Taraba, and Kaduna on Monday 25/08/2025.

On Tuesday 26/08/2025, NiMet also predicted thunderstorms with moderate rains anticipated over parts of Kano, Yobe, Borno, Adamawa, Jigawa, Kaduna, Gombe, and Bauchi states and flooding possible in Borno and Yobe states.

On Thursday, the metereological agency stated that a possibility of thunderstorms with moderate rains expected over Yobe, Borno, and Adamawa states. Possibility of heavy rains leading to flooding in Bauchi, Zamfara, Kebbi, Sokoto, Borno, and Yobe states.

“In the Central Region, Monday 25/08/2025, Morning thunderstorms with moderate rains over Niger, Nasarawa, FCT, and Benue state. Thunderstorms with light rains expected in the afternoon/evening.

” Tuesday 26/08/2025: Light rains anticipated over FCT, Nasarawa, Plateau, and Niger states. Wednesday 27/08/2025: Cloudy skies expected throughout the forecast period.

“Southern Region: Monday 25/08/2025: Cloudy skies with chances of light rains over parts of Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Abia states. Intermittent light rains anticipated in the afternoon/evening.

“Tuesday 26/08/2025: Cloudy skies with prospects of light rains over parts of Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.Wednesday 27/08/2025: Light rains expected over parts of Oyo, Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states.

“Temperature and Humidity in Abuja:Today’s temperature range: 71°F (21.6°C) to 81°F (27.2°C) Humidity: 76% to 94%.Feels like temperature: 85°F (29.4°C)

The agency urged drivers to avoid driving under heavy rain, refrain from applying fertilizers and pesticides before rains, Ensure warm clothing for vulnerable persons due to low nighttime temperatures

“Also, fasten loose objects to avoid collision, disconnect electrical appliances from sockets, stay away from tall trees, airline operators should obtain airport-specific weather reports,” it said in the report.
