Aviation unions suspend planned strike on Keyamo’s intervention

Planned strike by Aviation unions scheduled to begin on Monday has been suspended following the intervention of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo and senior ministry officials.
The unions the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP), and the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUCPTRE) announced the decision in a joint statement yesterday.
The unions had earlier issued a notice to withdraw services from Monday, August 11, 2025, over unresolved demands for improved remuneration.
However, the statement noted “positive developments, including the release of a “no objection” letter from the Budget Office to the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission and assurances from the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) that new salaries would be paid alongside August wages.
The statement read, “In order to demonstrate good faith, our unions have taken the decision to defer the strike action pending the state of affairs at the end of August 2025.”
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo said his long-standing relationship with labour unions had helped foster dialogue toward resolving lingering issues in the sector. “By showing absolute good faith, the issues will be resolved one by one,” he stated.
The unions urged all staff of the National Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) to remain hopeful and maintain solidarity as negotiations continue.
