Baruga rallies stakeholders for Sepaktakraw unveiling

President, Nigeria Sepaktakraw Federation, Abdullahi Ibrahim Baruga, has called on stakeholders to rally round the Federation to drive the development of the sport in Nigeria.

The NSF President said the Federation’s vision is to make Sepaktakraw one of the leading-sports in Nigeria, accessible to all, and recognized for excellence.

Baruga said the “ambitious goal can only be achieved through the collective efforts of relevant stakeholders in sports management administration; our players, supporters, and partners. Together, we will foster a vibrant, inclusive, and competitive Sepaktakraw community.

“The proposed unveiling by NISTAF scheduled for June, 2025 will mark a pivotal moment in our journey as we seek to establish and uplift Sepaktakraw in Nigeria, through various initiatives that will foster the development of our athletes and love for our darling new sport across Nigeria and Africa at large.

“With the conclusion of the Gateway Games, the stage is now set for the official unveiling and presentation of ‘Sepaktakraw’ sport to relevant stakeholders, press, and the general public, a dynamic and exciting sport that combines elements of volleyball, soccer, badminton, and martial arts. 

“As you are well aware, Sepaktakraw was introduced to Nigeria and ably led by Mr. Abdullahi Ibrahim Baruga, NPMA, (Jarman Wase) in 2023, with Nigeria Sepaktakraw Federation (NISTAF) as the sole regulatory body in Nigeria. The International Sepaktakraw Federation (ISTAF) is the governing body for Sepaktakraw worldwide.

“Similarly, the role and support of Nasarawa State Government is crucial and cannot be over emphasise being the host of the first ever Sepaktakraw Development Centre in Nigeria and Africa. The state has the right of first rejection to host the proposed unveiling. However, efforts are presently ongoing in engaging the state government through the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development; Hon Kwanta Yakubu to    provide the Federation the necessary support and hosting the proproposed unveilling in the Lafia Towhship Stadium.”

Baruga, who is also the Jarman Wase commiserated with the Kano State government over the ghastly motor accident involving their athletes returning from the recently concluded National Sports Festival held in Ogun state.

“Whilst we pray for the timely recovery of those that sustained injury, may the soul of the departed souls rest in peace,” he said.
