The National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA) says biosafety has a crucial role to play in safeguarding our human, animal health and the environment.
NBMA’s Director General of NBMA, Dr Agnes Asagbra, who made this known at the 2024 International Biosafety Conference in Abuja, noted that in an era of increasing global challenges like climate change, pandemics, and food insecurity, there is a need to promote sustainable development and environmental resilience.
Speaking on the theme; “Biosafety: An Indispensable Tool for Achieving Food Security, Health Improvement, and Environmental Sustainability”, the DG said the “conference provides us with a unique platform to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and collaborate across disciplines.
“Biosafety is not just a technical issue, but a foundational aspect of our collective security, impacting the health of our ecosystems, food systems, and community well-being.
“As we embark on this important journey, we should remind ourselves of achieving food security, improving health, and ensuring environmental sustainability as a collective effort.”
