Discos increase Band A customers’ tariff
Again, the distribution companies, Wednesday, announced an upward review of electricity tariff for customers on Band A feeders from N206.80 per kilowatt hour to N209.5 per kilowatt hour (/kWh) in accordance with the Multi-Year Tariff Order (MYTO).
The new tariff upward review came less than three months after the tariff was increased from N66 per kilowatt to N225 per kilowatt.
This is the third time in three months that the DisCos are adjusting tariff.
However, as at the time of filing this story, only three Discos, namely; The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC); Ikeja Electric, and Kaduna Electric made the tariff upward review public.
IBEDC’s acting Managing Director, Francis Agoha,in a statement he issued in Ibadan, Oyo state, stated
that the tariff , effective immediately ,would be adjusted from N206.80/kWh to N209.50/kWh
He noted that the review had been duly approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) as captured in the multi-year Tariff supplementary order.
According to him, the adjustment is necessitated by several key economic indices, including fluctuations in the exchange rate, current inflation rate, available generation capacity, and the cost of gas.
“These factors have significantly impacted operational costs, and the new tariff will mitigate these financial pressures while continuing to deliver high-quality electricity services.
“It is important to note that this adjustment affects only our Band A customers. The tariffs for Bands B, C, D, and E remain unchanged.
”We remain committed to providing reliable and efficient electricity services to all our customers across different bands,” he said.
Agoha said any change in tariffs could be a concern for customers, but added that the adjustment was necessary to maintain and improve the quality of services.
Also, in a statement, the Head, Corporate Communication, Kaduna Electric, Abdullazeez Abdullahi said the tariff is effective July 1, 2024 and affects both prepaid and post-paid customers.
He, however, assured customers on its Band A feeders of its continued availability of 20-24 hours of electricity supply daily as stipulated in the service-based tariff regime.
Abdullahi noted that the tariff for Bands B,C,D and E remains unchanged.
“The management of Kaduna Electric informs the public of an upward review of tariff for Band A feeders from N206.80/ kwh to N209.5/kwh.
“The review is effective from July 1, 2024 and affects both prepaid and post-paid customers.
In its statement, the Ikeja Electric signed by its management, said the new tariff up review would further sustain the improved service delivery being enjoyed by its customers.
“Kindly note the review in tariff on Bank “A” feeders from N206.80/kWh to N209.5/kWh effective 1st July 2024 in line with the service based tariff regime.
“The tariff for Bands B, C, D and E remains unchanged. Our customers can be rest assured that this development will further sustain the improved service delivery currently being experienced across all feeders Bands within the Ikeja Electric network”, Ikeja Electric said.
