Domestic equities market gains N111bn

The domestic equities market on Thursday appreciated by N111 billion as gains recorded by capitalised stocks impacted positively on trading activities.
Market capitalization of listed equities increased by 0.12 per cent to N91.107 trillion from N90.996 trillion reported on Wednesday.
The NGX All Share Index also appreciated by 174.66 basis points to 143239.23 points from 143064.57 points traded the previous day.
The positive performance was driven by gains in the shares of MTN Nigeria, United Capital, NCR, Fidelity Bank, United Bank for Africa, Access Bank among others.
The market breath was positive with 33 gainers against 20 decliners, bringing year to date return to 39.17 per cent
An analysis of the transactions showed that Linkage Assurance and Ikeja Hotel led gainers table with 10 per cent each to close at N1.87 and N27.50 per unit respectively. Learn Africa , NCR followed with a gain of 9.76 per cent each to close at N5.74 and 54.65 per unit respective, Union Dicon added 9.52 per cent to close at N6.90 per share.
On contrary, Champion Breweries topped losers chart, declining by 9.85 per cent to close at N12.35 per unit, Sterling Bank trailed with a loss of 8.33 per cent to close at N7.15 per unit, UPDC dipped by 8.23 per cent to close at N5.02, C &I Leasing declined by 4.83 per cent to close at N5.32 per unit, Guinea Insurance down by 4.35 per cent to close at N1.10 per share.
Volume of trades declined by 413.802 million, representing 56.04 per cent as investors traded 324.550 million against 738.352 million units traded the previous day. Value of transactions also went down by 65.59 per cent to settle at N13.051 billion in 18328 deals.
Trading in the shares of Fidelity Bank led market activities with 32.199 million shares valued at N615.142 million, United Bank for Africa followed with account of 28.215 million shares valued at N1.022 billion, GTCO Plc traded 26.195 million shares worth N2.265 billion, Zenith Bank exchanged 24.556 million shares cost N1.484 billion while Access Bank traded 14.442 million shares cost N302.011 million.
