Domestic equities return to bullish run, gain N648bn

The local equities market on Thursday took positive direction, appreciating by N648 billion as gains in MTN Nigeria lifted trading during the day.

Market capitalisation of listed equities rose by 0.51 per cent to N126.398 trillion from N125.750 trillion reported the previous day.

The NGX All Share Index grew  by 1,010.23 basis points to 196908.76 from 195898.53 points reported on Wednesday, bringing year to date return to 26.54 per cent.

The market rally was driven by gains in the shares of MTN Nigeria, Zenith Bank GTCO Plc, NGX group, Fidson health care and among others.

Volume of trades 121.492 million, representing 18.09 per cent as investors traded 549.781 million against 671.263 million recorded the previous day. Value of transactions increased by 71.20 per cent to settle at N44.735 billion in 55465 deals.

An analysis of the investment showed that FTGInsurance led gainers table , appreciating by 10 per cent to close at N6.27 per unit, Fidson healthcare followed with a gain of 9.97 per cent to close at N105.35 per unit, DeapCapital added 9.89 per cent to close at N7.00 per unit, Caverton Business Solutions increased by 9.40 per cent to close at N6.40 per share, Livestock Feeds gained 9.30 per cent to close at N7.05 per unit.

On the contrary,  Eterna Plc and Omatek topped losers chart, dropping by 10 per cent each to close at N42.30 and N2.52 per unit respectfully, Scoa trailed with a loss of 9.94 per cent to close at N22.65 per unit, FTGInsurance down by 9.24 per cent to close at N1.08 per share, Sovereign Trust Insurance dipped by 9.09 per cent  to close at N2.10 per share.

Trading in the shares of FTGinsurance led market activities with 32.182 million shares valued at N34.775 million, Access Holdings Company followed with account of 28.124 million shares worth N700.985 million, FirstHoldco traded 27.722 million shares cost N1.385 billion, Zenith Bank sold a total of 27.483 million cost N2.558 billion, Dangote Cement exchanged 26.892 million shares cost N20.670 billion , Sterling Bank traded 24.608 million shares valued at N184.926 million.
