Ebonyi: LG boss begins construction of multi-million naira market

The chairman of Ivo Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, Chief Emmanuel Ajah weekend commenced construction of modern market in Ishiagu to boost economic activities in the mineral rich community.
The multi-million market which is said to be built on a 16 hectares of land, was approved by Governor Francis Nwifuru.
The market is to accommodate Commercial bank, schools, hospital and police station when completed.
For over 100 years of its existence, the community has been without a good market
bit only a small market, Eke Ishiagu located on the heart of the town.
Flagging off the project at the weekend, Governor Francis Nwifuru, represented by Commissioner for Market Development and Parks, Professor Ajuka Nwogo, commended the Chairman of the local government, Chief Emmanuel Ajah for acquiring and fencing the land for the project.
He noted that Eke Ishiagu market will pave way for the market as it can no longer serve the people.
He predicted that the market would be industrial commerce hub when completed and urged the people to support the project.
The Governor commended Chairman of the local government for tackling the incidences of insecurity in the community.
Addressing the people, Chairman of the local government, Chief Emmanuel Ajah said the market would be completed within five months.
He noted that everything needed to actualize the project had been put in place and commended Governor Francis Nwifuru for approving fund for the construction of the market.
He called on the people of the area to ensure adequate security for those that will be constructing the project and the materials.
On his part, President -General of Ishiagu Community Development Union (ICDU), Moses Ajah said the market would be fire-proof.
“We will not have stories of fire outbreak in this market; it’s going to be fire-proof. We will not have stories of flooding the market ways; it has been taken care of in the design.
“We will not have stories of all manner of confusion that is associated with many market institutions and facilities.
“We have proposed for this market, a fire service station, a police station. We have proposed for this market a creche so that our mothers can have a place where they can keep their children and they will be learning while business activities are going on.
“We are also going to have a clinic in this market. We will also have pharmacies in this market and all of these are going to come to fruition”, he said.
