Economic hardship: Dangote Foundation donates 30,000 bags of rice to Oyo

The Dangote Foundation on Wednesday in Ibadan donated 30,000 bags of 10kg rice to the Oyo State Government, for distribution to indigents and vulnerable people.

Handing over the rice, the Head of Operations of the foundation, Mr Victor Ejiro, said the gesture was to support indigents and the most vulnerable people in the society.

Ejiro added that the donation was a kind of support to the existing programmes of Oyo State Government in alleviating poverty.

He said the foundation, which had been in existence for over 30 years, started the initiative of rice distribution in 2024, with one million bags of rice distributed, maintaining that it had started same in 2025.

Ejiro implored the people in charge of the distribution to ensure that only those who needed the rice across the 33 local government areas of the state get the commodity.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Oyo State Sustainable Actions for Economic Recovery (SAfER) Programme, Prof. Musibau Babatunde, appreciated the foundation for the gesture.

Babatunde said the donation was as a result of strategic partnership the state government had with private sector toward improving the people’s welfare and reduce poverty in the state.

He said the beneficiaries of the rice would cut across all socially-disadvantaged people in the state; from the physically-challenged, vulnerable groups, elderly ones and motherless babycare homes.

The SAfER chairman later performed the symbolic presentation of the rice to some of the beneficiaries.

Four beneficiaries, who spoke with NAN, thanked dangote foundation for the donation.

Mrs Olawumi Idowu and Mrs Victoria Olawale, who were physically-challenged, appreciated the foundation and Oyo State Government for counting them worthy of the gesture.

Also, Mr Olapade Tajudeen and Mrs Omotayo Borode, who were elderly and vulnerable, respectively, said the rice donation would serve as a relief to their daily needs.
