Equities market gains N1.424trn on first trading day

The domestic equities market on Monday opened the week in positive note, appreciating by N1.424 trillion as gains recorded in some mid cap and highly capitalised stocks lifted market activities.

This resulting in market capitalisation of listed equities appreciating by 1.29 per cent to N111.658 trillion from N110.234 trillion reported the previous day.

The NGX All Share Index also increased by 2218.73 basis points to 173946.22 points from 171727.49 points traded on Friday.

The market performance was driven by positive performance in the shares of Nahco, Scoa Plc, Access Holdings Company, DeapCapital,  Aradel Plc, Dangote Cement, Wapco , Zenith Bank and 50 other companies.

The market breath was positive with 58 advancers against 23 decliners, bringing year to date return to 11.78 per cent 

An analysis of the investment showed that Daar Communications, Cap Plc and May and Baker led gainers table with 10 per cent each to close at N2.09, N90.20 and N43.45 per unit.

RTBriscoe followed with a gain of 9.98 per cent to N13.89 per unit, DeapCapital added 9.97 per cent to close at N7.50 per unit.

On the contrary, Eunisell Plc topped losers chart dropping by 9.98 per cent to close at N134.85 per unit, TrippleG trailed with a loss of 8.90 per cent to close at N6.65 per unit, Abbey Building Society dipped by 8.03 per cent to close at N13.75 per share, AustinLaz Plc went down by 7.41 per cent to N5.00 per cent, HMCall dropped by 6.50 per cent to close at N3.99 per unit.

Volume of trades declined by 178.588 million, representing 18.72 per cent as investors traded 775.177 million shares against 953.765 million reported the previous day. The value of transactions also went down by 35.21 per cent to settle at N27.915 billion in 65970 deals.

Transactions in the shares of Access Holdings Company led market activities with 67.143 million shares valued at N1.547 billion, Zenith Bank followed with account of 46.242 million shares valued at N3.431 billion, NSLTech exchanged 43.942 million shares worth N47.867 million, Veritas Kapital traded 39.372 million shares cost N91.608 million, RTBriscoe sold a total of 33.893 million shares worth N145.668 million.
