The local equities market on Monday opened on negative note, shedding N472 billion as bears continue to dominate trading activities.

Market capitalisation of listed equities went down by 0.49 per cent to N94.526 trillion from N94.998 trillion reported the previous day.

The NGX All Share Index fell by 742.91 basis points to 148798.90 points from 149529.81 points.

The negative performance during the day was as result of profit taking across the sector especially in medium and large cap stocks.

The market breath was negative with 13 advancers against 41 decliners, bringing year to date return to 44.55 per cent.

An analysis of the investment showed that Aso Savings led gainers table with 10 per cent to close at N0.99 per unit, Deap Capital followed with a gain of 9.83 per cent to close at N1.90 per unit, Cornerstone Insurance added 8.70 per cent to close at N6.00, Neimeth international Pharmaceutical gained 8.65 per cent to close at N5.65 per share, Japaul Gold increased by 8.70 per cent to close at N2.23 per unit.

On the contrary, Linkage Assurance and RTBriscoe topped losers’ chart, dropping by 10 per cent each to close at N1.62 and N3.06 per unit, respectively. Nahco trailed with a loss of 9.95 per cent to close at N95.00 per share, Mutual Benefits down by 9.89 per cent to close at N3.37 per share, AIICO Insurance dipped by 9.89 per cent to close at N3.37 per share.

The volume of shares declined by 162.823 million, representing 30.89 per cent as investors traded 364.351 million shares against 527.174 million the previous day, the value of trades declined by 26.19 per cent to settle at N11.353 trillion.

Access Holdings company led market activities with 22.809 million shares valued at N496.600 million, Zenith Bank followed with account of 21.936 million shares cost N1.308 billion, Chams Plc traded 17.845 million shares worth N54.066 million, Aso Savings traded 14.768 million shares cost N14.299 million, while AIICO Insurance exchanged 14.028 million shares valued at N48.667 million.
