Equity market records 0.04% decline  

The domestic equity market on Wednesday returned to negative note, shedding N25 billion as loss recorded in the shares of MTN Nigeria, GTCO Plc, Dangote Sugar impacted negatively on the market.

Market capitalisation of listed equities declined by 0.04 per cent to N56.645 trillion from N56.670 trillion recorded the previous day.

The NGX All Share Index also depreciated by 43.27 basis points to 100032.32 points from 100075.59 points reported on Tuesday.

As a result, year to date return dropped by 33.78 per cent as NGX printed 28 gainers against 18 losers.

A review of the investment showed that United Capital led gainers table, increasing by 10 per cent to close at N36.30 per share, Afriprudential followed with a gain 9.88 per cent to close at N8.90 per share, Cutix Plc added 9.86 per cent to close at N6.13 per unit, Oando Plc gained 5.63 per cent to close at N16.90 per share, Julius Berger up by 4.79 per cent to close at N87.50 per share.

On the contrary, RTBriscoe top losers’ chart, dropping by 5.71 per cent to close at N0.66 per unit, FTNCocoa trailed with a loss of 4.44 per cent to close at N1.72 per unit, Tantalizer fell by 4.26 per cent to close at N0.45 per unit, Neimeth international Pharmaceutical dipped by 3.56 per cent to close at N1.64 per share, Conhall Plc declined by 3.45 per cent to close at N1.40 per share.

Volume of trades increased by 730.608 million representing 198.32 per cent as investors traded 1.099 billion valued at N10.076 billion against 368.372 million worth N7.424 billion exchanged hands the previous day in 8151 deals.

Transactions in the shares of Jaiz Bank led market activities with 528.490 million shares valued at N1.145 billion, Cutix Plc followed with account of 194.643 million shares worth N1.193 billion, Zenith Bank traded 77.751 million shares cost N3.107 billion, Universal insurance traded 36.262 million shares worth N12.347 million, FCMB group exchanged 33.884 million shares cost N257.088.
