FG commissions Freight service on Narrow Guage from Lagos to Kano state
Federal Government has commissioned the freight service on the narrow guage from Lagos to Kano state.
The project was undertaken by the Ministry of Transportation.
The Minister of Transportation, Sen Said Alkali during the commissioning on Thursday in Kano state said fixing of the Narrow Gauge for freight from Lagos to Kano state would ensure the restoration of freight operation Kano.
He said the construction of Standard Gauge form Lagos to Kano and Kano – Maradi is progressively on going at an appreciable speed.
He said the Federal Government has recently secured financing for the completion of the Kaduna-Kano Standard Gauge on going rail project.
“In addition, the Federal Government has initiated the construction of another rail project that links Badagry to TinCan and TinCan to Apapa. It will also link Lekki to Ijebu Ode, Ijebu Ode to Kajola which will connect the route from Lagos to Kano and Kano to Maradi.
“It is worth mentioning that this newly commissioned project and several others mentioned are undertaken under the rail modernization project to accelerate the realization of the Renewed Hope Agenda of our dear President.
Also, the Deputy Governor of Kano state, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo who represented the Governor of Kano, Abba Kabir Yusuf said the service will make import and export much easier from this part of the country to the rest of the world.
He said “It is an opportunity for our people to import and export without much difficulties. We have been living in the nightmare of transporting our goods and products by road and we face all kind of challenges and hazards. Now all that is gone.
“We thank God for the facility and we appreciate the efforts of the Federal government of Nigeria through the Ministry of Transportation, ” he said.
