FG lifts suspension on East-West road construction
Federal government has lifted the suspension earlier imposed on the construction of East-West Road in Rivers State and directed the contracting firm, Messrs Renolds Construction Company (RCC) Ltd. to immediately resume work on the 15km Eleme to Onne Junction on the East-West Road in Rivers State.
Recall that Umahi had, while on the inspection of the project over the weekend, raised the alarm over the use of sub-standard materials by the contractor handling the project.
He also expressed sadness over the slow pace of work even after the government made an advance payment of N33 billion to ensure that no sharp practice was recorded.
But a statement issued in Abuja by Barrister Orji Uchenna Orji, the Special Adviser on Media to the minister, said the suspension was lifted after Umahi and his team met with the management of the company in Abuja.
“The minister further directs the contractors handling the project to resume work on the four sections of the project and in strict compliance with the contract specifications.
“They are also required to liaise with the permanent secretary and the director in charge of construction to engage with the representatives of the host communities on issues bordering on alleged infringement on the contractors’ right of way which, according to them, slows down the project, “the statement stated.
