FG to concession Airports across Nigeria – Keyamo

Federal Government has announced plans to concession all airports across the country.

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo while briefing Journalists on Thursday in Abuja ahead of the upcoming Nigeria International Airshow to be held in Lagos state, 2025 assured that there will be no loss of jobs in cause of the concession. 

He said those who are coming for the concession must also be ready to take on the liabilities in terms of the workforce and others. 

He said in the next few days, he will be holding several meetings with the unions to also carry them along in this exercise.

He said “this issue will also help to promote what we want to do because people will come and see our potentials, what we have on the ground, and also what we want to concession”. 

Keyamo explained that the Airshow brings together all stakeholders in the aviation industry and it is a place where people cross-pollinate ideas too, very modern ideas regarding aviation.

He further said stakeholders will be displaying their services, displaying their products also. 

“We are marketing our airports for people to come and collaborate with us. So, it will be a powerful platform to advance these airports. Like I said, we are looking at it to be a three-day event, the way we planned it.

“It will also promote the economic activities within Nigeria. At a time where Mr. President says we want to run a $1 trillion economy, Mr. President wants to develop this economy to be a $1 trillion economy.

“It will lead to the creation of more jobs, more infrastructural developments and all of that, the gains would be visible.

So it will transcend aviation,” he said.

Also, the CEO Nigeria International Airshow, Bria Okonkwo said Nigeria is blessed and the aviation is the first point of call to any country and that is the first entrance to the country.

She said that is how critical the aviation industry is and lauded the Minister who has been awesome in the last one year in making things happen in the sector.
