Fintiri approves N5.4bn for roads, security, infrastructure

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has presided over the 16th 2025 Adamawa State Executive Council meeting in Yola, where the Council approved over N5.4 billion for key projects including road construction, security, power supply, and infrastructure upgrades.
Briefing journalists after the meeting at the Government House Council Chambers, Commissioner of Information James Iliya said the approvals include N4.4 billion for the construction of the Girei–Pariya-Wuro Bokki Road, covering 18 kilometers under Phase One to be handled by Rekon and Kon Nigeria Limited, with a completion period of 12 months.
The Council also approved N189 million for the construction of a police outpost at the 1,000-unit Housing Estate in Malkohi to strengthen security and safeguard infrastructure in the area.
In addition, a new 1,000 KVA generator worth N580 million will be procured for the Government House, replacing the old one purchased in 2014, while N199 million has been set aside for the procurement of 10 transformers to be distributed to communities in need of electricity.
The Commissioner explained that these approvals reflect the administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, security, and improved living standards for both urban and rural communities.
Commissioner of Works, Adamu Atiku Abubakar, said the Girei–Pariya road project, first awarded in 2016, was abandoned due to non-payment by the past administration.
He explained that the Fintiri government has revived the project and divided it into phases, with the first phase covering 18 kilometers at a revised cost of N6.4 billion.
The Commissioner added that the original contractor has been retained and given 12 months to complete the work.
Commissioner of Urban Development, Abdullahi Prambe, said the ongoing projects are part of Governor Fintiri’s urban renewal agenda aimed at decongesting the capital city.
He explained that the 1,000 housing units at Malkohi are almost completed, and to ensure the safety of residents, the government has awarded a contract worth N189 million for the construction of security outposts.
The Commissioner added that other government facilities, including lodges, the Governor’s office, and the Government House main gate, are also receiving upgrades.
He said a 1,000 KVA generator has been procured to guarantee a steady power supply whenever public electricity is unavailable.
