Group tasks FG on diversification of Nigeria’s economy
The Executive Director of the Advocacy for Good Ethics Accountability Development Mr. Henry Thomas has called on Nigeria’s fiscal authorities to diversify the economy as it aims to tackle the country’s economic challenges.
Addressing journalists after the close of the 2nd Edition of the National Legacy Summit, themed “Diversification of Nigeria Economy; The Only Hope for National Development”, Sunday in Abuja, Thomas noted that with the economy in dire strait with its resultant hardship being experienced by the citizens, it was about time Nigeria reversed the fortune of an oil driven economy.
He stressed the need for innovative solutions, advocating a shift away from oil dependence towards sectors like agriculture, mining, culture, tourism, and technical education for national growth.
He called for collective support for the advocacy for good ethics accountability development’s initiative urging a return to foundational sectors to steer the nation towards prosperity.
On his part, the keynote speaker, Comrade Okpanachi Jacoub, stressed the pivotal role of agriculture in combating food insecurity and boosting sectoral income.
He urged increased government budgetary allocation to the sectors, enhanced extension services, policy interventions for farmers, mechanization, and foreign direct investment as vital strategies for agricultural development.
The summit, with its clarion call for economic diversification, saw industry experts and thought leaders setting a clear agenda for Nigeria’s economic transformation, placing emphasis on recalibrating all sectors of the economy to foster national development and progress.
