Kogi, Lagos most expensive states in Nigeria

With Nigeria facing its highest inflation in over 27 years at 28.20 per cent, and Christmas and New Year festivals around the corner, Kogi and Lagos are the most expensive states in Nigeria with food inflation rate rising to 41 per cent in November in Kogi, and Lagos recording 39.0 per cent in the same period.

Although experiencing a slight drop in the all-items inflation rate to 33.28 per cent from October’s 34.2 per cent, Kogi remains the most expensive state in Nigeria

Lagos emerges as the 2nd most expensive state for Christmas holidays, with an all-items inflation rate of 32.30 per cent.

The food inflation rate is 39.0 per cent, showing a slight increase from October’s all-items rate of 31.2 per cent. This shift elevates Lagos from the third most expensive state last month to the second spot in November.

Rivers State stands at 3rd position, reporting an all-items inflation rate of 32.25 per cent marking an increase from October’s 31.4 per cent.

The food inflation picks up at 40.22 per cent, a notable uptick from October’s 29.3 per cent, indicating a growing trend of increased living expenses, especially related to food.

Oyo State also makes the list with an all-items inflation rate of 31.35 per cent, but the food inflation rate has reduced to 33.3 per cent, signifying a considerable drop compared to October’s 37.0 per cent.

Akwa Ibom boasts a 30.69 per cent inflation rate. The food inflation is particularly high at 37.25 per cent, a significant surge from October’s 31.3 per cent.

Bauchi state is number six on the list with an all-items inflation rate of 30.3 percent from 28.1 per cent recorded in October.

Food inflation, however, shows a decrease from 27.73 per cent in October to 26.14 per cent, indicating a nuanced trend in the state’s inflation dynamics.

Ogun entered the ranking in November at the 7th position, reporting an all-item inflation rate of 30.2 per cent, up from October’s 27.7 per cent.

The food inflation rate stands at 35.49 per cent, a substantial jump from 31.39 per cent in October, underscoring the pivotal role of food in driving inflation in Ogun State.

Kwara State, boasting one of the lower inflation rates among the states listed, stands at 30.16 per cent.

Particularly striking is the food inflation in Kwara at 40.72 per cent, largely higher than the 31.7 per cent recorded in October, emphasizing the significant role of food prices in the state’s inflation dynamics.

Kaduna and Ondo hold the 9th and 10th position with an all-item inflation rate of 29.79 per cent and 29.7 percent respectively.

While Kaduna recorded a food inflation rate of 32.63 per cent, reflecting a rise from 30.46 per cent, Ondo food inflation rate surged to 35.49 per cent, marking a substantial increase from 27.7 per cent, highlighting the heightened costs of food items in the state.
