The FAAN helmsman affirmed that the project is central to the federal government airport development project and remains a key aspiration for her as the MD of the airports management authority.

Kuku spoke at a recent interactive session with the aviacago roadmap Committee in Lagos where she said “Give me a quicker schedule of implementation. Air cargo is of great importance to this government. We want things done a little Faster.”

The Coordinator of the Committee Mr. Ikechi Uko had briefed Mrs. Kuku on the progress of work carried out so far and pointed out that the meeting was the first meeting of the enlarged committee in over 10 months.

The committee launched a pilot project of cargo exports through four selected airports and to carry out a trial run of perishables export from harvesting at the farm through the Lagos airport in a timeline of less than 24 hours.

The older include a trial run of cereals through the Kano Airport while another for exports will carry out via the Enugu and Jos airports.

According to them, the trial runs are to test the effectiveness of the Air Cargo Pathway developed by the roadmap committee involving stakeholders drawn from the air cargo ecosystem.

Government agencies represented include the Nigerian Exports Promotion Council, National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control, the Standard Organisation of Nigeria, the National Agriculture Quarantine Services and the National Drug Law Enforcement A alongside the Nigerian Custom Service.
