Oshiomhole commends CBN on reforms

The Senator representing Edo North Senatorial District and a member of the Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, has praised the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for what he describes as bold reforms.

Oshiomhole said this while responding to the presentation made by CBN Governor, Mr. Olayemi Cardoso.

Cardoso, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Economic Policy, Dr. Muhammad Sani Abdullahi, during an interactive session with the President’s economic team in Abuja.

Sen. Oshiomhole, who revealed that initially, he was very critical of the CBN Governor and his management team when he was appointed, admitted that he had been proved wrong.He praised the Bank’s effort at ensuring lasting reforms in the economy saying the results are there for all Nigerians to see.

Oshiomhole, who is the Senator representing Edo North said: “I was one of those who were very critical when you were appointed, but today, I am one of your marketers. You must sustain those tools and not be influenced by politics. You should be guided by pure economic logic.”

Earlier in his presentation, the CBN helmsman took time to put the Committee through the reforms that had been undertaken insisting that it had helped to moderate both food and headline inflation and maintain exchange rate stability.

While reaffirming the commitment of the Apex Bank to achieve single-digit inflation, he praised the coordination between the fiscal and monetary authorities saying it promotes economic stability and growth, which are the key mandates of the Bank.
