PowerUp condemns unprovoked attack on Ikeja Electric offices, seeks probe

PowerUp Nigeria, a non-governmental organization dedicated to advancing sustainable energy access and power sector in Nigeria, vehemently condemns the unprovoked attack on Ikeja Electric offices by the Nigerian Airforce on the 6th of March, 2025.
In a statement signed by Executive Director, PowerUp Nigeria, Adetayo Adegbemle, the reckless act has caused significant damage to critical energy infrastructure, disrupted essential services, and endangered civilian lives.
Reports indicate that on the 6th of March, 2025, Nigerian Airforce personnel launched an attack targeting Ikeja Electric facilities at their Headquarters in Ikeja, and Oshodi Business Units, resulting in extensive structural damage, destruction of equipment, and temporary suspension of operations.
PowerUp Nigeria therefore, called for a transparent, impartial inquiry into the circumstances leading to this attack with findings made public.
He also called for prosecution of individuals and entities responsible for authorizing or executing the assault.
“Compensation: Full restitution by the Nigerian Airforce for damages incurred by Ikeja Electric and affected communities.
“Safeguards: Concrete measures to prevent future attacks on critical infrastructure, including clear protocols for military-civilian engagements.”
The power sector watchdog reaffirms its commitment to working with government agencies, private sector partners, and civil society to strengthen Nigeria’s energy resilience.
“We stand ready to support efforts to restore power, repair damages, and foster accountability,” he said.
