TaxPro Max: Close all unauthorised accounts, FIRS orders banks

In a sweeping move aimed at enhancing transparency and curbing revenue leakages, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has directed all banks operating in Nigeria to immediately identify and close any unauthorised tax and levy collection accounts not integrated with its digital tax administration platform, TaxPro Max.

The directive was issued through a public notice signed by the Executive Chairman of FIRS, Zacch Adedeji, and shared with journalists on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media, Dare Adekanmbi.

The notice, titled “Directive to Close Unauthorised FIRS Tax Collection Accounts”, mandates that all tax-related collections must now be processed exclusively through the TaxPro Max platform, which was developed to centralise and automate tax operations in Nigeria.

“Effective immediately, all tax and levy collections on behalf of FIRS must be processed exclusively pursuant to an assessment raised on the TaxPro Max platform,” the notice stated.

Banks participating in the FIRS Collection, Remittance, and Reconciliation Scheme were warned that failure to comply with the new directive could result in sanctions, including the loss of their eligibility to participate in future tax collection mandates.

The FIRS said the move is part of a broader reform agenda aimed at ensuring uniformity in tax administration, improving revenue reconciliation in real-time, and reducing human interference in tax processes.

The TaxPro Max system, now central to Nigeria’s tax administration strategy, enables functions such as taxpayer registration, filing of returns, payment processing, automatic issuance of receipts, and generation of tax clearance certificates.
