The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, CON, has expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the killing of 15 farmers in Marte Local Government Area of Borno State by suspected terrorists.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Senator Kyari described the attack as a tragedy that strikes at the heart of Nigeria’s food security efforts.

“I am deeply saddened and outraged by the tragic killing of 15 farmers in Marte Local Government Area of Borno State by suspected terrorists,” the Minister said.

“These innocent Nigerians lost their lives while working on their farms to earn a living and contribute to the food security of our nation.”

He extended condolences to the families of the victims, the people of Marte, and the Government of Borno State under Governor Babagana Umara Zulum.

“I pray that Almighty Allah grant the deceased eternal rest and comfort their families,” Kyari added.

The Minister stressed that the killing of farmers is not only an attack on lives and livelihoods but also a direct assault on Nigeria’s collective efforts to achieve food security.

“Protecting our farmers is protecting Nigeria’s food security,” he declared.

Kyari reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to ensure that farmers can cultivate their lands safely and productively.

He commended security agencies for their ongoing efforts but urged them to intensify operations to bring the perpetrators to justice and locate the three persons reportedly still missing.

“May Almighty Allah continue to protect our farmers, rural communities and our nation,” the Minister concluded.

The attack in Marte underscores the persistent challenges faced by farming communities in conflict-prone regions, where insecurity continues to threaten both lives and the nation’s agricultural output.
