Domestic equities open bullish, gain N3.159trn

Transactions on the floor of Nigerian Exchange on Monday opened the week on positive note, appreciating by N3.159 trillion as gains in mid caps and heavyweight stocks lifted trading for the day.

Market capitalization of listed equities up by 2.01 per cent to N160.253 trillion from N157.094 trillion reported on Friday.

The NGX All Share Index also appreciated by 5705.60 basis points to 250481.42 points from 244755.82 it closed the previous day.

The improvement in the market on Monday was driven by gains in MTN Nigeria, GTCO Plc, Dangote Cement, FirstHoldco, Mecure,Zenith Bank, UBA, Wapco , Berger Paint among others.

The market breath was positive with 58 gainers against 21 losers, bringing year to date return to 60.67 per cent.

A review of trading during the day showed that Livestock Feeds, Chams Plc International General Insurance recorded 10 per cent gain each to close at N8.80, N3.41 and N2.86 per share. RTBriscoe, FTNCocoa increased by 10 per cent each to close at N16.50 and N9.13 per share.

.On the contrary, Prestige insurance topped losers chart with 10 per cent to close at N1.44 per share, Sovereign Trust Insurance trailed with a loss of 9.96 per cent to close at N2.76 per share, UPL dipped by 9.09 per cent to close at N4.00 per share

EllahLakes dropped by 9.05 per cent to close at N10.05 per unit Tantalizer and NPF Micro Finance Bank also declined  7.69  per cent and 6.25 per to close respectively at N4.20 and 6.00  per unit.

Volume of trades increased by 419.00milluin, representing 39.30 per cent as investors traded 1.485 billion shares against 1.066 billion recorded the previous day. Value of transactions went up by 24.38 per cent to settle at N68.454 billion.

Trading in the shares of Veritas Kapital led market activities with 194.545 million shares valued at N299.074 million, Access Holdings Company followed with account of 172.077 million shares worth N4.179 billion, FirstHoldco exchanged 148.934 million shares cost N11.060 billion, FCMB group traded 123.897 million shares cost N1.415 billion, Champion Breweries traded 82.990 million shares valued at N1.250 billion.
