Domestic equities open bullish, gain N3.169bn
The local equities market on Monday opened week in a bullish run, appreciating by N3.169 trillion as gains in heavyweight stocks lifted trading for the day.
Market capitalization of listed equities increased by 2.15 per cent to N150.271 trillion from N147.102 trillion reported on Friday.
The NGX All Share Index also appreciated by 4937.89 basis points to 234178.23 points from 229240.34 points reported the previous day.
The positive performance during the day was driven by gains in the shares of UBA, MTN Nigeria, Access Holdings company, TIP, Dangote Cement, Dangote Sugar, Wapco and 37 others.
The market breath was positive with 44 advancers against 11 decliners, bringing year to date return to 50.49 per cent.
An analysis of the investment showed that First Holdco, International Breweries and Wema Bank led gainers table with 10 per cent, to close at N60.50, N10.45 and N29.79 per share respectively.
Aradel Plc followed with a gain of 9.99 per cent to close at N1430.30 per share, NGX group increased by 9.96 per cent to N129.75 per share, Veritas Kapital up by 9.92 per cent to close at N1.44 per unit.
On the contrary, Vitafoam Nigeria Plc and Nahco Plc topped losers’ chart, with a drop of 10 per cent each to close respectively at N170.10 and N133.75 per share. Cap Plc trailed with a loss of 9.99 per cent to close at N157.60 per unit, FTGinsurance fail by 9.94 per cent to close at N2.90 per unit, Thomas way declined by 9.45 per cent to close at N2.49 per share.
Volume of trades also went up by 83.719 million, representing 18.40 per cent as investors traded 538.636 million against 454.919 million reported the previous day. Value of trades increased by 40.18 per cent to settle at N38.701 billion in 64065 deals.
Transactions in the shares of Zenith Bank led market activities with 83.898 million shares valued at N9.181 billion, GTCO Plc followed with account of 36.009 million shares worth N4.574 billion, Fidelity Bank exchanged 32.699 million shares valued at N580.154 million, Access Holdings Company traded 26.806 million shares worth N622.995 million, Jaiz Bank traded 16.226 million shares worth N130.216 million.
