Equities market opens week positive, gains N160bn
The nation’s equities market on Monday opened on a positive note, appreciating by N160 billion.
Market capitalization of listed equities increased by 0.10 per cent to N157.747 trillion from N157.587 trillion reported the previous day.
The NGX All Share Index also went up by 246.50 basis points to 243299.24 points from 243052.74 points it closed on Friday.
The positive performance recorded during the day was supported by gains in the shares of FirstHoldco, GTCO, Zenith Bank, NGX group, Nestle Nigeria Plc, Custodian Insurance among others
The market breath was negative with 19 advancers against 28 decliners, bringing year to date return to 56.35 per cent.
An analysis of the investment showed that NGX group and Royal Express led gainers table with 10 per cent each to close at N162.00 and N0.99 per unit respectively.
RTBriscoe followed with a gain of 9.88 per cent to close at N8.90 per unit, NSLTech added 7.69 per cent to close at N0.70 per unit, Prestige Insurance gained 7.19 per cent to close at N1.49 per share.
On the contrary, JohnHolt topped losers’ chart, dropping by 10 per unit, Daar Communications trailed 9.80 per cent to close at N138.00, EllahLakes down by 9.80 per cent to close at N9.20 per share, Regal Insurance dipped by 8.97 per cent to close at N0.71 per unit, Learn Africa fell by 8.67 per cent to close at N7.90 per unit.
Volume of trades declined by 123.62 million, representing 23.19 per cent as investors traded 428.97 million shares against 532.89 million traded the previous day. Value of transactions dipped by 20.43 per cent to settle at N20.52 billion in 54592 deals.
Transactions in the shares of Sterling Holding Company led market activities with 78.052 million shares valued at N588.867 million, Mutual Benefits followed with 42.107 million shares valued at N118.137 million, Chams Plc traded 78.500 million shares worth N98.414 million, Fidelity Bank exchanged 25.844 million shares cost N497.822 million, Access Holdings Company traded 21.580 million shares cost N613.810 million.
