Minister advocates sustained public private partnership to drive national development

The Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr. Doris Uzoka Anite, has called for the collaboration of Ministries, Departments and Agencies, development partners and the private sector to achieve the goals of the national development plan.
Dr. Uzoka Anite made this disclosure while receiving a delegation from the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (AUDA-NEPAD), led by its National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer, Hon. Jibrin Salisu Abdullahi.
In her remarks, Dr. Uzoka Anite underscored the importance of sustained partnership, policy alignment, and knowledge-sharing in driving Nigeria’s development agenda. She highlighted ongoing efforts to develop a new National Development Plan to succeed the expired 2020–2050 framework, noting that the new plan will prioritize measurable outcomes, policy coherence, and accelerated economic growth.
The Minister emphasized that achieving a modern and resilient economy requires strong alignment between planning, implementation, and monitoring systems. She further stressed the importance of inclusive development, sustainability, institutional reforms, and active private-sector participation. According to her, collaboration across ministries, agencies, and international partners remains critical to meeting national, continental, and global development targets.
The Chief Executive Officer of AUDA–NEPAD Hon. Jibrin Salisu Abdullahi commended the Ministry’s leadership and reaffirmed AUDA- NEPAD’s commitment to supporting national development efforts.
He emphasized the importance of evidence-based planning and the integration of Continental frameworks into Nigeria’s development strategies to enhance outcomes in job creation, Economic growth and improved living standards.
He further stressed the need for aligning development targets with national budgeting processes and leveraging monitoring and evaluation systems to improve accountability and performance.
Hon. Abdullahi assured the Ministry of AUDA–NEPAD’s readiness to provide technical support, capacity building and coordination to ensure effective implementation of the national development plan in order to strengthen Nigeria’s performance within Continental benchmarks.
In her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Deborah Odoh, expressed appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed the Ministry’s mandate to coordinate national development planning. She noted that the Ministry plays a central role in aligning government policies with national priorities and broader frameworks such as Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Dr. Odoh highlighted key sectors of focus—including infrastructure, agriculture, governance, and human capital development—and expressed optimism about the successful implementation of the forthcoming National Development Plan (2026–2030). She reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to deepening partnerships that will advance Nigeria’s development objectives.
