Nwifuru’s free education programme takes centre stage at Imo rally

Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s free education programme for pioneer students of the state’s University of Aeronautics and Aviation has received commendation from Ebonyi indigenes resident in Imo State.
The commendation came during a solidarity rally organised by Ebonyians in Imo State, where thousands of indigenes from various local government areas gathered to highlight what they described as the achievements of the Nwifuru administration in education, human capital development, healthcare, infrastructure and security.
Representing the governor at the event, his Deputy Chief of Staff, Chief Engr. Donatus Uche, disclosed that the 180 pioneer students of the aviation institution would receive free education for five years, from admission to graduation.
Uche said the gesture would cover both Ebonyi indigenes and non-indigenes, describing it as part of the governor’s commitment to making quality education accessible to young people irrespective of their economic background.
He said the establishment of the University of Aeronautics and Aviation, alongside an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) university, would create opportunities for young people to acquire specialised skills and compete favourably in the global economy.
The Deputy Chief of Staff recalled that he had personally spent millions of naira to send his son abroad to access similar educational opportunities, stressing that the governor’s initiative would save families huge financial burdens while giving young people access to specialised education at home.
He also highlighted the administration’s overseas scholarship programme and other human capital development initiatives, urging Ebonyians to assess the impact of the programmes beyond political arguments on social media.
The rally coordinator, Chief Iziogo Edwin Moses, also commended Nwifuru for his interventions in education, security and healthcare, as well as ongoing infrastructure projects across the state. He said the administration’s investment in education was particularly significant because of its potential to transform the future of young Ebonyians.
Moses, alongside other community and APC stakeholders at the gathering, expressed support for the governor’s continuity agenda, with participants pledging to sustain their support for Nwifuru ahead of the 2027 general elections.
