Senegal’s President elected new ECOWAS Chairman

Senegal’s President, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, has been elected as the new Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.
He was elected on Sunday, during the 69th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government held in Freetown, Sierra Leone, succeeding Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio.
His emergence comes at a crucial time as West Africa continues to confront security challenges, democratic transitions, economic integration, and regional cooperation.
Nigeria was represented at the summit by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who attended on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
